New Year getaway!
What a wonderful way to start the year, travelling to a destination you did not quite know existed. Gozo was not on the “travel to” list for either explorers until it was their only choice. It was not negative at all, in fact being able to escape the harsh icy winter from their homelands was a Godsend.
They travelled nearly the whole day, starting with a coach ride from London to Stansted airport to meet the family. Not forgetting to mention the bottle of red wine they shared to lighten the angst of travelling with the family to this destination. Good thing too, as it also acted as dutch courage, and allowed the travel buddies to talk to random strangers, namingly a worker at Stansted.
Fast forward to the present and every time they travel from Stansted they ensure to ask said employee if he will be on shift that day, and if he can offer them free tastings. And rewind back to the travel. Arriving in Malta airport, tired, hungry and wishing they had more gin, on new year’s eve, they set to find the ferry and make their way to their Airbnb villa in Gozo. On their arrival the hosts awaited them in a house smelling like freshly made Gluhwein.
After what felt like hours of having to listen to the ‘locals’ tell them all about Malta and Gozo it was nearly time for the New Years countdown. The troop made their way to the top of their resting place to find a rooftop blanketed in billions of stars. The family enjoyed the alcohol they managed to scavenge (and pay for) on the almost empty ferry on their way to Gozo. The following day they would all be able to see the absolutely stunning panorama of Gozo from their roof top.
Gozo Pizza is the best Pizza
The following days allowed for a lot of exploring, a lot of pizza consumption as well as midnight snacks to keep the energy levels up, beach hopping and so so many beautiful photo opportunities, as well as being able to document the difference in culture, notably the vast amount of telephone wires.
Gozo is an extremely small island with roads to almost everywhere, scenery to make even the saddest of person happy with its bright orange sand, bluer than blue ocean and, back when they were there, the Azur Window where the two later found out “Game of Thrones” was shot.
Gozo would be a recommended travel destination to anyone who enjoys the quieter side of life. I am sure there is a wild side to Gozo other than its gale force winds that leave the houses sounding haunted. Gozo also offers a wonderful amount of beauty and it is easily found. To conclude, Gozo is also a great fitness resort with all its inclines when walking and hardly any flat surfaces. #fitness #motivation
